El síndrome de fatiga crónica (CFS, por sus siglas en inglés), también conocido como encefalomielitis miálgica (EM) o EM/CFS, es una enfermedad crónica compleja que afecta a casi 1 millon de estadounidenses. Las mujeres tienen entre dos y cuatro veces más posibilidades que los hombres de ser diagnosticadas con EM/CFS. Las personas que padecen EM/CFS tienen síntomas que dificultan las tareas cotidianas que la mayoría de nosotros hacemos sin siquiera pensarlas, como vestirse o bañarse. Actualmente no existe ningún tratamiento específico aprobado por la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos contra el EM/CFS. En general el tratamiento consiste en aliviar los síntomas.
